Communication Provider?
As time progresses, there will be constant developments in almost every sector. Technology is among the most consistent industries when it comes to advancements. This is evident in how people started shifting from using SMS to instant messaging applications as their default way of sending texts.
Text messaging apps, such as WhatsApp, WeChat, and Telegram are steadily taking over in the digital messaging sector. The popularity of these three instant messaging applications has resulted in other similar applications popping up. Using these messaging software became even more rampant with the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic as face-to-face interactions have been restricted. Since then, companies have had to resort to using online applications for their communication.
But even with the attempts of others to recreate these programs, the three – WhatsApp, WeChat, and Telegram – remained the most commonly used text messaging applications. The debate of what is the world’s largest communication provider then remains.
Regarding statistics, it is recorded that WhatsApp has 25.58 million monthly unique users in the United States, while WeChat has 1.48 million users. On the other hand, Telegram has more unique visitors compared to WeChat, with a number of 3.47 million users.
A study by Statista Global Consumer Survey claimed that 25% of its respondents used WhatsApp regularly, while only 3% used Telegram and WeChat. Facebook Messenger takes the top spot in this survey, with 88% of respondents saying they use this messaging app regularly.
While the numbers are already giving an initial view of the most commonly used instant messaging app, companies still have to consider several factors, such as the archiving laws. They must ensure that all exchanged messages within their organization should be recorded. For instance, WeChat complies with message archiving regulations with their WeChat archiving. The archiving system allows WeChat call recording for easier monitoring and surveillance.
